Reflexology is a type of therapy in which pressure is applied to the feet and/or hands, with the purpose of improving balance and ease in the entire body.
Reflexology is based on the premise that there are reflexes in the feet and hands, which correspond to the various body systems. Various imbalances cause calcium and uric acid deposits that flow throughout the body, ending up in the nerves located in the extremities (the feet and hands). These deposits cause blockage which inhibits energy from flowing through the zones. The feet and hands, at this point, act as a barometer or mirror, highlighting where imbalances exist in the body.
A skilled Reflexologist is able to see and feel where the blockage exists. Pressure is applied to the reflexes in the feet, resulting in relaxation of the corresponding body system, energy being released and the initiation of the self-healing process. As energy flows through the patient, organs within the zone that is being worked are affected, improving their overall function.
